The Restorer

Alpheus E. Moss is a regional historian, genealogist, and proud alumnus of Concord Rosenwald High School (Class of 1966), where he graduated as valedictorian.

Born and raised in Rusk County, Texas, Alpheus has devoted much of his life to preserving the cultural and historical legacy of the Concord community. He currently serves as President of the Concord High School Alumni Association (CHSAA) and leads the $760,000 restoration of the Concord Rosenwald School.

During his high school years, Alpheus was a standout dual-sport athlete—playing forward on the basketball team and first baseman for the baseball team. After graduating from Concord Rosenwald High School and earning a B.A. in Accounting from Stephen F. Austin State University, he built a successful 43-year career in Houston, Texas, working in the oil and gas industry.

Alpheus played a key role in national efforts to reengineer federal financial and compliance systems through the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Royalty Management Program (RMP). In 2001, he was awarded the MMS Corporate Leadership Award for his contributions to the successful development of new financial and compliance systems.

Alpheus is also actively working with the Rusk County Historical Commission to secure Texas Historical Markers for the Hall and Moss Cemeteries as well as the Moss Temple Church of the Living God, honoring the spiritual and ancestral legacy of Black families in the region. His preservation efforts span schools, churches, and cemeteries central to Concord’s cultural heritage. He continues to spend time with his family, research ancestral lines, and serve as a committed steward of community memory and historical truth.
